Part 7
Albany was fluttering around the book shelves, “Now Cindy, we have a job to do,” He looked closely at the book he was holding, “no that wouldn't help us,” he was talking more to himself than Cindy, “We have to find another source of power for the queen.” he look off into space thinking dreamily about the queen. “She’s such a wonderful dragon.” he sighed.
Yeah right, Cindy thought, “So why do we need to find another source for the queen?”
“Because believe it or not,” he look sad and floated down to the floor, “our beloved and wondrous queen is slowly losing her powers.”
Cindy brightened up, “Really!” she sounded eager and excited.
Albany snapped his head toward her, and then glare, “Yes, why do you sound so happy?” he growled.
“Sorry, I was more surprise than anything.” that seem to smooth it over, because Albany flew to the very top book shelf, and started talking about finding another source again. “So have you found anything even close to what the queen want’s?”
“I have found a source it’s in that scroll that’s unrolled on the table,” Cindy carefully walked around books and scroll’s that were on the floor, “there’s supposed to be a door down under the palace, it has three dragons on it a gold, sliver, and copper dragon.”
She looked closely at scroll it was tatter and worn but still readable, it had a weird poem on it,

Golden dragon shy and kind,
Sliver dragon tough and ruff,
 Bronze dragon smart and clever,
will unleash a power to save the kingdom,
in the depths of the mountain behind a door,
lie’s a power of great measure.

Cindy read aloud, “I know I’ve read that about a dozen times, trying to figure out what it means,” he came back to the table and stared at the scroll, “I’m such a disappointment to the queen.” he sighed.
“No you’re not, how are you suppose to understand something,” she looked back down at the strange poem, “that is such a puzzle.”
“Thank you, I’ve been feeling awful lately,” then he shook and stood up, “there has to be more to this scrolled, I haven’t check them all yet.” he gesture his claw over to a large pile it was stack so high it was using the wall as support.
All of sudden he was an orange blur across the room, he lean against the window, “Aww, it’s getting dark.” he sighed, “that mean’s quitting time, I hate quitting time!” he fell back into a pile of books.
Some of the books fell, “Why don’t we just light some candles and keep reading?”
He look shocked, “We can’t do that! The queen would flip she would be distraught, she made it a law that we should quit at night to relax and spend time doing one thing we want to do.” Albany stretched out on the books he looked comfortable.
That door kept popping back up in her mind, what could that poem mean and should there be three dragons of those same colors? Maybe they would be the only ones who truly know how to open the door if they are, then that means the answer wouldn’t be in the scroll’s. She look over at the mountain of the scroll’s, but she was sure there wasn’t any dragon’s that were gold, sliver, or bronze. Or else the queen would force them to be in this library trying to figure out this riddle, or whatever it is. Cindy curled up next to Albany, “So how long have you been in this library?”
Albany, looked up at her, “I don’t really know, I mean I don’t spend all my time in the library, I can leave when I want now that I have all my scales.” he looked proud, “but the queen sent me a letter about how much of a procrastinator you are so I have to keep my eye on you.”
Cindy rolled her eye’s, she knew better then to argue, it would only result her into a unreasonable punishment. “That’s not what I meant, what I mean is when were you place in this world?”
He tilted his head, “I was born here, I don’t remember my past or my parents, but the queen say’s the past doesn’t matter just the future.” he flap his wing’s once.
Then Cindy understood that meant she was going to forget everything too, as soon as she had all her scales! “So you don’t know how long you’ve been here?” she sounded panic.
“Clam down, I’m 25 years old that’s how long I’ve been alive and lived in this kingdom. Now I started work in the palace at eighteen years, so yes I know.” he gave a look that said something was wrong with her.
“I was just wondering that’s all,” he closed his eye’s and listen, “what happened if the queen loses all her power?”
“Then princess Melinda would take over the palace and rule, but the queen say’s she not near ready so we need to find a way to help queen Aubrey stay in power.” he curled up in a orange ball.
“Doesn’t it seem unfair that Melinda doesn’t get her turn, when obliviously that fate has made it’s decision?” Cindy was all in favor of Aubrey’s rule to end.
“Yes it would if the queen wasn’t ever going to give the throne up, but she will once Melinda get’s her mind out of the clouds and back down to earth.” Cindy look confuse, “She has these ridiculous notions that she’s going to change the rules to this kingdom, and replace them with some unreasonable ones.” he shifted to get a book to stop poking him in the side.
“What kind of rules?” she was wondering if they were worse than the rules and punishments they had now.
“Oh something like less punishments and more understanding, like instead of whipping someone for interpreting the queen, she’s going to listen to what they have to say, isn’t that credulous.” he rolled his eye’s.
“Yeah sounds crazy,” then the queen’s magic came to her, “Why doesn’t the queen just use her magic to take Melinda’s power away so she can be stronger?”
“Because Melinda was born from an egg, she didn’t just appear like we did one day, so any dragon born from an egg, can’t be affected by the queen’s magic,” he tuck in tighter, “her husband was also born from an egg.”
“Who’s that?” Cindy was glad for this information, maybe she can find a way to use it against her.
“You should know he brought you to the library.” he looked up at her.
“Eden’s her husband?” he nodded, “Wow, no wonder he’s so want’s everything perfect with her laws.”
“Oh yes,” he yawn, “he is very serious about us listening to the queen, but he’s actually a nice dragon as long as you listen. Now it’s time for bed, good night.” he bedded down and started to snore.
He was a fast sleeper, so if the queen isn’t affected by this world’s magic how can I use that power behind the door against her?
